How to apply for PAN Card

You can apply for a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card in India by following the below steps:

  1. Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website: Go to the NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) or UTIITSL (UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited) website. Both are authorized by the Income Tax Department of India to issue PAN cards.

  2. Select the PAN application form: On the homepage, select the 'New PAN - Indian Citizen (Form 49A)' option if you are an Indian citizen or 'New PAN - Foreign Citizen (Form 49AA)' option if you are a foreign citizen.

  3. Fill in the form: Fill in the PAN application form with your personal and contact details, such as your name, date of birth, address, email ID, and phone number.

  4. Upload the documents: Upload the scanned copies of the supporting documents required, such as proof of identity, proof of address, and proof of date of birth. The list of valid documents can be found on the NSDL or UTIITSL website.

  5. Pay the fee: Pay the PAN application fee online using a credit/debit card or net banking. The fee amount may vary depending on whether you want a physical PAN card or an e-PAN card.

  6. Submit the form: After completing the form and payment, submit the PAN application form.

  7. Note down the acknowledgement number: After submitting the form, you will receive an acknowledgement number. Note it down for future reference.

  8. Track the status: You can track the status of your PAN application using the acknowledgement number on the NSDL or UTIITSL website.

  9. Receive the PAN card: Once your PAN application is approved, you will receive your PAN card by post at the address mentioned in the application form. If you have applied for an e-PAN card, you can download it from the NSDL or UTIITSL website.

Note: You can also apply for a PAN card offline by filling in a physical form and submitting it at any of the NSDL or UTIITSL authorized PAN centers or TIN facilitation centers.
